Japanese shipping giant Imabari Shipbuilding , along with a dozen other companies, has invested US $80 million in the British startup Core Power to develop a floating nuclear power plant using SMR technology that could also one day be used in ships. The project hopes to have an SMR prototype to test around 2030.
