    Microsoft Ignite, the tech giant's annual conference for developers and IT professionals, kicked off its 2023 edition on Wednesday with over 100 announcements related to Windows, Microsoft 365, and Azure that will impact businesses. This year’s focus was mainly on artificial intelligence (AI) with the company recently launching its Microsoft 365 Copilot and its integration with other products. Here are the top 10 revelations that stole the spotlight during the event:



    Copilot Takes Over Bing Chat

    Microsoft rebrands Bing Chat to Copilot in a bid to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Dropping the Bing Chat branding, Microsoft positions Copilot as the go-to chat interface for users in Bing, Microsoft Edge, and Windows 11, intensifying the competition for AI assistant supremacy.

    Microsoft's Custom AI Chips for Azure

    Microsoft is stepping into the realm of custom silicon with its own AI chip, Azure Maia, and an Arm-powered CPU named Azure Cobalt. Set to debut in 2024, these chips aim to power Azure data centres, marking a strategic move to reduce dependence on Nvidia and prepare for an AI-driven future.

    Unified Security with Security Copilot

    Microsoft has introduced an "industry-first" unified security operations platform by merging its Sentinel security analytics and Microsoft Defender XDR platforms. The platform features the central deployment of the Security Copilot chatbot, empowering IT and security personnel with expanded conversational AI capabilities for streamlined security management.

    Loop: Microsoft's Notion Competitor

    Microsoft officially launched Loop, a productivity and collaboration app reminiscent of Notion. With flexible workspaces and pages, Loop aims to facilitate seamless collaboration among users. Its user interface bears a striking resemblance to Notion, making it a notable competitor in the productivity and collaboration space.

    Copilot Studio: No-Code AI Solution

    In response to OpenAI's GPT platform, Microsoft unveils Copilot Studio, a no-code solution allowing businesses to create custom AI copilots. This innovation is an extension of
    Microsoft 365 Copilot, enabling businesses to tailor copilots, automation flows, and datasets to their specific needs.

    Personalised Touch to Copilot AI

    In its first update since launch, Microsoft enhances Copilot's interactivity, particularly in Teams meetings. Users now have the flexibility to personalise Copilot's output, adjusting formatting and tone according to individual preferences, initially in Word and PowerPoint.

    3D Teams Meetings with Microsoft Mesh

    Microsoft is turning immersive 3D Teams meetings into reality by integrating Microsoft Mesh into Teams. This integration, set for January 2024, allows co-workers to meet in virtual spaces without the need for VR headsets, marking a significant shift in Microsoft's original vision for Mesh.

    Microsoft Planner: Unified Project Management

    To streamline project management, Microsoft announced the integration of Microsoft To Do, Microsoft Planner, and Microsoft Project for the web into a unified experience called Microsoft Planner. This consolidated offering is set to debut in spring 2024 within Microsoft Teams.

The "decorate your background" feature, scheduled for early 2024, utilises generative AI effects to clean up and replace clutter in the background during video calls, offering a more polished and professional appearance.
