I’m super excited to announce Exploratory v6.5! 🎉🎉🎉

I have presented a seminar to introduce the new features and enhancements the other day.

If you prefer to read I’m going to highlight some of the most exciting ones here.

Project

Search

Now you can search inside the Projects!

And not only the data frame names you can also search by the chart (or analytics) tab names and the comments.

This is not just for Search, but the pop-up window that shows up when you mouseover on the data frames now shows analytics as well.

Width Adjustment

Now you can adjust the width of the left hand side pane where the data frames and reports (e.g. Dashboard) are listed.

And you can click the thumbnail images to directly open the corresponding charts or analytics!

Data Source

Multiple CSV / Excel Files Import

Now you can import multiple CSV or Excel files at once rather than one by one.

There are 2 modes.

The first one is to import multiple files at once but as separate data frames. The other one is to import multiple files and merge them together as a single data frame.

Either way, you can select multiple files in 3 ways.

First, you can select by the file names.

Second, you can select all files under a selected folder.

Third, you can select by matching with a part of the file names.

Once you have selected the files, then you can click on the Import button to import them as separate data frames.

Or, if you click on the ‘Import & Merge’ button then it will import all the selected files then merge them together as one data frame.

Once it’s imported you will see which files are merged under the ‘id’ column.

The super cool thing about this is that it will import any newly added files as long as they are matched by the file selection condition when you re-import the data.

This is super convenient when you periodically add new files to the same folder and want to add the data into your visualization or analysis.

Google Drive / Amazon S3 Support

Now you can directly import CSV / Excel files from Google Drive and Amazon S3!

Summary View

We have added a new ‘Type’ parameter to provide 3 modes.

First, the Aggregate mode shows you the aggregated values (mean or ratio) for each numeric or categorical value.

Second, the Distribution type shows you a distribution of a target variable for each numerical or categorical value.

Last not least, the Uncertainty type shows you the mean or the ratio with the confidence interval for each numerical or categorical value so that you can see if a given difference is significant or not.

Analytics

Time Series Clustering

We have this new analytics capability as a Data Wrangling Step in v6.4.

But with v6.5, we added the Time Series Clustering under the Analytics view.

Correlation

Now you can show the correlation coefficient values on the charts.

And we have added a new ‘Significance’ tab which shows whether a given pair of the variables is statistically significant or not.

Chart (Visualization)

Sort by Ratio

Now you can sort the bars based on the first level in the Color group.

Word Cloud

Now you can assign different columns to Color and Size!

And you can pick a color palette from the wide range of options that you are familiar with other charts.

Date Format Support for Table

You can now apply the date format to your date and time data.

Data Wrangling

Sometimes, you want to summarize for each row.

And here comes the ‘summarize_row’ function, which can be used inside the ‘Create Calculation (Mutate)’ dialog.

That’s the highlight of Exploratory v6.5!

But, as always, we have many more enhancements and bug fixes in this release. Don’t forget to check out the release note for the full list!
