The recent iteration of the free online course focuses on introductory lectures in artificial intelligence and machine learning

With the goal of improving access to artificial intelligence education, the NYU AI School offers a free week-long machine learning course, including lectures, labs, and panel discussions with leading AI experts. The course is primarily designed for undergraduates and particularly encourages underrepresented students to apply. The program gives participants a comprehensive understanding of the current AI research landscape in just five days. To make the opportunity more accessible, the recorded lectures from the previous iteration of the school held January 10–14, 2022, are now publicly available on YouTube!

The NYU AI School grew from a 3-day workshop that took place in October 2019, with the first week-long event launched in February 2021. The program is organized by students from NYU Data Science, Courant Institute, and other departments. It is supported by the NYU ML² Machine Learning for Language Lab, a team of researchers developing machine-learning methods for natural language processing (NLP) affiliated with the CILVR Lab, and the Center for Data Science. The course includes among its past and current sponsors, Prescient Design (a Genentech Accelerator), DeepMind, and the One Fact Foundation.

Held during the break between semesters, the course is tailored for early undergraduate students in the NYC area with an interest in machine learning. The school is particularly suited to those with limited access to educational opportunities in this area and is accessible for students without backgrounds in computer science, data science, math, and statistics. Unlike many other events, no programming experience is required to attend.

“Each year we try to offer a series of bridge lectures for students from non-traditional backgrounds seeking to learn more about artificial intelligence and machine learning from leading researchers in the field,” said Swapneel Mehta, Lead Organizer of the NYU AI School. “We are excited to support students from underserved communities passionate about applying their skillset to diverse areas of science, technology, and social good!”
