We’re excited to announce some of the incredible and totally new sessions we have coming to ODSC East May 9th — 11th, 2023 in Boston and online. Our expert speakers will be sharing their insights and knowledge on a wide range of topics. Check out a few of them below.

Graph Viz: Exploring, Analyzing and Visualizing Graphs and Networks

Tamilla Triantoro, PhD | Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems | Quinnipiac University

In this session, you will learn how to use directed and undirected graphs, clustering and dynamic graphs to create compelling visualizations to help provide insight into the structure of data and more. You’ll also explore centrality metrics, networking density, various layout algorithms, and strategies for interpreting and communicating graph data.

Mathematics for Data Science

Eric Eager, PhD | VP of Research and Development | SumerSports

Learn about the mathematical principles that underlie the field of data science through examples drawn from a variety of industries. This session will prepare you to explore your own data science problems and move on to more intermediate and advanced courses.

Semantic Search

Nils Reimers | Director of Machine Learning | cohere.ai

Semantic search is a method of mapping documents to a semantic vector space, which does not just encode the used words in a document, but it actually encodes the meaning of documents enabling you to overcome the lexical gap of e.g. synonyms (United States and U.S.) or spelling variations/mistakes.

This talk will give you an intro to semantic search and how it can simplify your search setup while at the same time delivering way better search results.

Democracy and the Pursuit of Randomness

Ariel Procaccia, PhD | Professor | Harvard University

In this session, you will explore recent work on designing, analyzing, and implementing randomized participant selection algorithms that balance the two requirements of sortition: that the demographic composition of citizens’ assemblies reflect the general population and that every person be given a fair chance (literally) to participate.

Winning The Room: Creating And Delivering An Effective Data-Driven Presentation

Bill Franks | Director of the Center for Statistics and Analytical Research | Kennesaw State University

During this session, you will discuss concrete strategies and best practices for creating a presentation that maximizes comprehensibility without sacrificing accuracy. You’ll also learn how to use visuals to promote understanding and retention.

Improving ML Datasets with Cleanlab, a Standard Framework for Data-Centric AI

Jonas Mueller | Chief Scientist and Co-Founder | Cleanlab

Join this talk to explore how you can implement high-level ideas from data-centric AI across a wide variety of datasets (image, text, tabular, etc), as well as discuss new algorithmic strategies to improve data, connections to AutoML, where the data-centric AI movement is headed next, and key obstacles that deserve more attention.

If We Want AI to be Interpretable, We Need to Measure Interpretability

Jordan Boyd-Graber, PhD | Associate Professor | University of Maryland

During this talk, you’ll discuss two metrics for interpretability for unsupervised and supervised AI. In the case of unsupervised models, you’ll examine the “intruder” metric, what makes it different, and its use in the community over the last 10 years. For supervised question-answering models, you’ll look at how human-computer cooperation can be measured and optimized through a multi-armed bandit approach.

Towards the Next Generation of Artificial Intelligence with its Applications in Practice

Dr. Hongxia Yang, PhD | Director & Senior Staff Scientist at Alibaba | Joint Adjunct Professor at Zhejiang University

Join this session to learn about the state-of-the-art recommendation system, M6, the world’s largest pre-training model and Gemini, an edge-cloud collaboration platform, and how it can be used in practice.

Creating a Custom Vocabulary for NLP tasks using exBERT and spaCY

Swagata Ashwani | Senior Data Scientist | Boomi

What happens when you need to add new terms or customize an NLP language model? Join this tutorial to learn one method for creating a custom vocabulary that can be utilized for any NLP tasks.

Mastering Adversarial Evaluation for NLP: A Practical Workshop

Panos Alexopoulos, PhD | Head of Ontology | Textkernel BV

During this workshop, you’ll learn the knowledge and skills required to conduct an adversarial evaluation of an NLP system. This session will be hands-on and will explore how to identify and then fix weaknesses in the system. By the end, you will have a better understanding of how adversarial evaluations can help you find and prevent errors in your NLP system.

Register for ODSC East 2023 now.

You will find all of these sessions, and many, many more, at ODSC East 2023 on May 9th — 11th. Don’t miss your chance to learn from some of the best and the brightest in data science and AI and to save 40% on your conference pass.
