OpenAI, arguably the leader in the world of large language models, stated that the AI company will be releasing a version of ChatGPT focused on the needs of large businesses. According to Reuters, the product will be called ChatGPT Enterprise and it will offer greater privacy, security, and speed. This comes as OpenAI’s main partner, Microsoft, is also aiming to provide greater enterprise-level AI products as well. So far, the report states that some of OpenAI’s customers include Block and Estee Lauder Companies.

Since the release of ChatGPT, generative AI has taken the world by storm, with many of the fastest-growing sectors of users being non-data scientists and other data professionals. OpenAI’s recent acquisition of Global Illumination is another signal that the company is aiming to quickly expand its industry footprint further.

With that said, it seems that ChatGPT may feel comfortable with acquiring casual users and now is hoping that ChatGPT Enterprise can bring greater numbers of workforce users on board.

ChatGPT Enterprise isn’t the company’s first dip into enterprise-level services. Last Spring, OpenAI and Microsoft announced access to ChatGPT through Azure OpenAI Service. This provided AI-powered services through Microsoft’s popular cloud computing platform. Though to access these features, users had to be customers of Microsoft Azure.

So with ChatGPT Enterprise’s launch, it should be interesting to see how the separation between the Azure services and a standalone enterprise platform could provide customers with a choice in service.

On that topic, a representative for Reuters asked about this issue to OpenAI. A spokesperson for the company stated, “Customers can choose which platform is right for their business.” The push toward models that are domain/industry-specific isn’t a real surprise.

Major companies, such as Bloomberg have already developed GPT-style models that are trained to specifically operation within their industries. So OpenAI’s move is a signal that the market for domain-specific LLMs may be quickly growing.
