Three Reasons Why it’s Time to Bring Your Team to a Conference

The past year has seen a reopening of society and a return of many to their offices. Even so, there are still many people who are working from home with only minimal in-person contact with their colleagues and team. In fact, those in the software engineering and data science fields tend to work from home the most. In this new hybrid working environment, in-person events are increasingly important for a number of reasons, especially for teams, some of which are mentioned below.

Reconnect:

The past few years have seen an explosion in remote positions. While these roles provide numerous benefits, they also come with some downsides: fewer opportunities to build synergy with the team, increased feelings of isolation, and fewer opportunities for the casual exchange of ideas.

An in-person conference is the perfect opportunity to reconnect and counteract many of these challenges. At a conference, team members will have ample opportunity to build stronger relationships through both structured and unstructured events. They will build not only new skills, but form stronger bonds through casual meals and conversations.

Learn as a Team:

When you attend in-person conferences as a team, you have the opportunity to learn together. Your team can either all attend the same sessions, ensuring that everyone has the same foundational knowledge, which helps avoid mistakes and confusion at work. Alternatively, each team member can attend different sessions and share what they learned with each other, maximizing the number of new skills and knowledge gained during the event.

Reduce Company Costs:

Attending as a team also means that you can reduce company costs. Some conferences have exclusive discounts for groups. Similarly, you might be able to get a group rate for lodging or transportation. Finally, since your entire team is attending the conference at the same time, the loss of productivity at work is limited to that week, rather than spread out as each team member takes off for training.

Ready to attend a conference?

With so many benefits, it just makes sense to bring your team to an in-person training conference. And be sure to check out the leading data science training conference, ODSC East this May 9th-11th, where you will find 300+ hours of expert-led, hands-on training sessions, workshops, and talks.
