Data Challenge Championship Start: 2024 Season is Live

Introduction
This blog introduces the kickoff of the 2024 Ocean Protocol Data Challenge Championship. The first Data Challenge of the year is live on Desights now and ends on Tuesday, Jan 30, 2024. ’24 is the 3rd year of Ocean Protocol-sponsored data science competitions. This year welcomes season 2 of the championship and leaderboard points. Additional details about the 2023 Season can be found in this blog post. Some minor details have been added/subtracted to this year’s championship, which are presented below:
What’s New This Season?
2023 welcomed over 200 unique data scientists competing in data challenges. To accommodate an increasing number of recurring participants, we have raised the prize pool for each data challenge from $5000 USD to $10,000 USD available every challenge. Due to this, the 200 OCEAN participation bonus for submitting reports & proposals has concluded.
Starting with the current data challenge (Road to Safety: Traffic Accident Analysis) the $10,000 prize pool will be distributed to the top 10 scored submissions per data challenge. Additionally, leaderboard points for the championship season will be rewarded for every challenge, scaled to the top 10 on a given data challenge. All participants outside of the top 10 will not receive points towards the championship season leaderboard. Furthermore, new data challenges will begin roughly on 2 Thursdays of each month, and each will be open to participate for 20 days. 2022 & 2023 data challenges tested different time durations between 7–30 days. It has been determined that initiatives and hypothesis testing that require longer than 20 days will be tagged and executed as something other than a data challenge (data science competition).
Beyond the program structure, new features and functionalities of Desights.ai continue to roll out regularly. Desights is the application that the Ocean Data Science team uses to conduct data challenges. The platform continues to mature as the web3 platform to crowdsource solutions to AI & ML challenges, business intelligence, applied data science, and predictive analytics.
How It Works
There are 3 points to pay attention to while submitting:
- You will need a Desights Profile to submit to a data challenge. If you don’t have one, you can follow this simple tutorial to create one: https://docs.desights.ai/guides/creating-desights-profile
- Before submitting make sure you have the valid asset URL for your submission. Here’s how to do that: https://docs.desights.ai/guides/checking-if-your-asset-url-is-correct
- Make sure you submit correctly! Submission is directly via the Desights Platform. Check out our guide on how to submit your solutions: https://docs.desights.ai/guides/submission-to-the-challenge
Important: Make sure you submit your solutions before the deadline. The submission form will not be available once the challenge expires.

2024 Leaderboard & Awards
As briefed above, the reward structure for each data challenge and the end-of-championship season awards have been modified.
1) More $ incentives repeatedly for the best quality reports/outcomes, and 2) advancements in gamifying the points structure for the year are the two main pillars of change to bear in mind.

Calendar of Events
Data Challenges sponsored by the Ocean Protocol Data Science team will begin 2 Thursdays of every month. Challenges will also end on 2 Tuesdays of every month.
Each Challenge will be open for 20 days to formulate a report, results, or alternative submission criteria for the given challenge.
The 2024 Championship Leaderboard is live and will conclude in December 2024.
Updates to changes in the leaderboard will be published through Ocean Protocol media channels after each data challenge ends and new points are accrued.
