If there is one thing we’ve learned with the public adoption of the release of ChatGPT, AI isn’t limited to only data science professionals. Workers, managers, students, and others across industries are discovering the benefits of adding AI and generative AI tools into their toolkits. These tools have helped in cases of project management, communications, planning, and more. But for some, the idea of using artificial intelligence is still beyond them and there might be some fears related to its use.

So let’s take a look at a few practical ways non-data science professionals are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to supercharge their projects.

Non-Profits

If there is one important aspect of a non-profit that can’t be denied, it’s the need to fundraise. Unlike most companies, non-profits tend to be structured legally so that they aren’t selling services or products. Their existence is due to the willingness of donors to provide resources, often in the form of capital, so that these organizations are able to function and achieve their stated missions.

So how is AI changing the landscape? Well, non-profits are using AI to personalize fundraising appeals, identify potential donors, and track the impact of their programs. There are tools such as DonorPerfect, GivingDNA, and many others that are helping them sort through their donor databases, identify prospects, and even optimize the timing on which they should ask for donations.

Small Businesses

Though many have noted the large benefits of AI for enterprise-level businesses, another group that would also stand to benefit would be their smaller counterparts in the small business world. Much of this is due to how AI can help businesses punch a bit above their weight class without having to invest at the levels of a medium or even large business. Where AI can help small businesses in terms of automating tasks, improving customer service, and target marketing campaigns.

This is seen as more tools such as CRMs like HubSpot and others are integrating more AI-powered features into their suite, allowing smaller businesses to reach more customers and provide excellent service.

Schools/Education

AI and education might seem as if they’re made to be enemies, but as Khan Academy’s partnership with OpenAI has shown, that doesn’t necessarily need to be the case. Like with smaller businesses, AI can help schools not only reduce costs associated with educating students but also even provide more personalized learning experiences.

Schools across the globe are looking at platforms such as LearnUpon, 360Learning Tovuti, and Litmos, to name a few, as ways to improve student outcomes, identify student needs, and target teachers so that students who are at risk of falling behind are given the help they need before those issues cascade.

Hospitals

Since last year, there have been news stories of researchers across the globe utilizing machine learning and AI to help power new cutting-edge research. From drug discovery to improvement in identifying potentially life-threatening diseases, AI has scaled wildly into medicine. But where many may not have noticed AI is in hospitals themselves. Over the last several years, multiple Enterprise Resource Platforms have entered the market hoping to assist hospitals in optimizing operations while maintaining compliance with federal and state laws.

These platforms are all different, but they tend to be similar in their approach and mission. Optimize patient outcomes, experience, and care, while ensuring proper workflows that don’t harm staff while excelling at compliance requirements related to data.

Some of the best-known providers include PINC AI, Qualetics, and Oracle.

Transportation

If there is one thing that the pandemic has shown us, is that supply chains and transportation are easily overwhelmed when faced with unexpected issues. But, due to these new market conditions, AI is fast becoming an important tool in both transportation and supply chains. Companies are using platforms to optimize routes, improve driver safety, and even employ machine learning to predict delays and make appropriate changes in a driver’s route.

Though this may not sound exciting, AI is helping to ensure that products make it on time, in a safe manner, and at a lower cost. By employing AI-powered tools, the stresses seen in the supply chain since 2020 are beginning to finally reduce. This in turn is helping the entire economy get itself on a better foot, become more resilient, and even do its part to reduce human-caused CO2 emissions. By optimizing routes, and improving safety, the overall environmental impact of transportation services is also reduced as less time on the road means fewer chances for accidents, few gallons of fuel used, and less wear on the road system itself.

Vendors such as Axon Software, Rose Rocket, Alvys, drayOS, and others are currently helping to scale AI further into the transportation industry.

Conclusion on Using AI

Pretty neat right? These are only a few examples of how industries that aren’t traditionally connected to AI are now looking toward it as a means of improving their services, functions, and impact. As AI continues to scale and new tools continue to be released, even more companies, no matter their size, will see the benefits of artificial intelligence and then will look toward these tools to supercharge their offerings.
